To cap off the downloads we need to grab two utilities that will help us out a LOT in the future. Give yourself a pat on the back – the hard (or easy?) part is done! Now, without any more interruptions, let’s get to playing! Now we’ve got the client and the graphics all set up, and we’ve also grabbed a copy of Dwarf Therapist. If you are still running on a dinosaur computer like mine, the paste process may take a minute. “save”! Inside the save folder is where you will paste region1. Once inside “data” it’s not hard to find the four-letter word we’re looking for.
Then, like always, navigate to your Dwarf Fortress folder and head inside the “data” folder. First, find where you downloaded the region1 folder and copy it.

PC Users: Vanilla Dwarf Fortress – Download Mac and Linux users can do so by skipping the installing graphics step. Open up tileset, and replace the text (if there is any) with “IRONHAND”, no quotes. If there is no text file named tileset, that is our fault, not yours! Go ahead and make one and save it as tileset. Then head back out to the Dwarf Fortress folder and find “data” –>”init” –> “tileset”. This is where you will insert your Ironhand folder. PC Users: Dwarf Fortress + Ironhand Graphics Set – Download Mac and Linux users will have to download the client separate, and then extract the tileset into the game folder. PC Users will be able to download the client and graphics set all in one go. It is a huge improvement on the ASCII characters used in the original game, and makes for a lot easier transition into playing. We recommend bundling the Ironhand Graphics set as well. Next, we need to grab a copy of the official Dwarf Fortress client.

Next, start the install by double clicking the downloaded file and clicking “Install”, then “OK” on the setup screen, then “Done”. Otherwise, start the download by clicking the appropriate link below.
